How did you get your start at the Auto Care Association?

My aunt, who is also in the nonprofit accounting field, thought I would be interested in the position and referred me.

What are your work duties at the association? Can you describe a typical day? 

I manage the accounting for the Auto Care Association, along with other related entities. The typical day is focused on all things finance related, such as payroll, budgeting and accounting.

In which department do you work? What are the key responsibilities of the department?

I work in the finance department managing the accounting operations of the organization and related entities.


Where did you go to college? What did you study?

I hold a BS and MS in accounting from George Mason University.



Where else have you worked (what jobs/positions/locations)?

I previously worked for the National Student Clearinghouse and the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine as an accounting manager and associate controller, respectively.  .  

Where did you grow up and what are some interesting details about your life before working at the association?

I grew up in both Arlington and Loudoun County, Va.

What is your favorite part about working at the association? What are the biggest rewards? 

By far, my favorite part about working at the association is the people. The culture here is incredible.


What is your proudest professional accomplishment at the Auto Care Association so far?  

I am fairly new to the association; however, an accomplishment for me was joining the organization during the busiest time for the finance department and completing the year-end close and financial statement audit.


What unique qualities do you feel you bring to the Auto Care Association?

My experience with various size organizations and the ability to remain agile by constantly evaluating and refining processes to enhance efficiency.


What are your long-range professional goals for both you and the Auto Care Association?

To utilize new technologies and/or processes for continuous improvement in the finance function.


What do you feel are the biggest rewards of working in the auto care industry? 

Although I haven’t been in the auto care industry long, the people in this industry are very passionate. The core values of the association -- Teamwork, Curiosity, Integrity and Fun -- can be seen throughout the organization whether it be in Teams meetings, in-person events, Teams chats, etc.

 

Tell us about your life outside of work (family, hobbies, home, etc.).

I am married with two boys. I’m a self-proclaimed “foodie” and enjoy trying/cooking various types of dishes. I also enjoy traveling.


Tell us a few fun facts about you that would surprise people (special skills, awards, accomplishments, etc.).

I am a black belt in martial arts and used to compete in tournaments when I was young.
