How did you get your start at the Auto Care Association?

After spending more than twelve years with another organization, I was interested in exploring new opportunities.  The timing worked out because Auto Care was also looking to expand its government affairs department.

What are your work duties at the association?

I advocate on behalf of the industry with federal and state legislators and relevant regulatory agencies.

In which department do you work? What are the key responsibilities of the department?

I work in the government affairs department.  The government affairs team represents the industry’s interests before federal and state legislators and regulators, and advocates for policies that are favorable to our member businesses.

Where did you go to college? What did you study?

I attended American University in Washington, DC, for my undergraduate and graduate degrees.  I studied political science and international studies.

Where else have you worked (what jobs/positions/locations)?

Before joining Auto Care, I was Vice President for Congressional Affairs at the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (Silver Spring, MD).  I also worked for more than ten years on Capitol Hill for three House members.

Where did you grow up and what are some interesting details about your life before working at the association?

I’m originally from Pittsburgh, PA.  I came to Washington, DC, to pursue my interest in government service and politics.  My other interests include music, sports, and travel.

What is your favorite part about working at the association? What are the biggest rewards?

The best part of my time at the association so far is working with the amazing staff and meeting the members of the Auto Care community.

What unique qualities do you feel you bring to the Auto Care Association?

Having worked more than twenty years on Capitol Hill and for a nonprofit organization, I have experience working in fast-paced environments and collaborating across departments to achieve shared goals.

What are your long-range professional goals for both you and the Auto Care Association?

I’m looking forward to advancing Auto Care’s priorities with policymakers and helping our members understand what’s happening on Capitol Hill.

What do you feel are the biggest rewards of working in the auto care industry?

It’s rewarding to work with and on behalf of people who are passionate about what they do.

Tell us about your life outside of work (family, hobbies, home, etc.).

I love to travel, watch my favorite sports teams, and attend concerts. I also enjoy spending time with family and friends.

Tell us a few fun facts about you that would surprise people (special skills, awards, accomplishments, etc.).

Legislation I worked to pass in Congress was portrayed in a Lifetime television movie.  I’ve had lunch with one of the mentors from Project Runway.  I’ve attended more than thirty Billy Joel concerts.
