PFAS / Chemical Restrictionsss

Issue

PFAS chemicals are used in car seats and upholstery, dashboard and interior coatings, brake systems and tires, and wiring and insulation, the proposed regulation would have had numerous effects on the auto industry.

Our position

In states with auto manufacturing plants, auto companies would at a minimum need to watch the amount of these chemicals being released into drinking water as waste; most likely, they would need to explore alternative options to these chemicals in the manufacturing process in order to keep them at the standard levels. Both actions would have cost extra labor, time, and money to follow that they are now able to save because the regulations have been withdrawn. However, companies will still need to adhere to pre-established guidelines in individual states, the number of which may increase now that protections have been left up to the states as many believe current PFAS levels are unacceptable.
