Mentor Interview: YANG's New Mentorship Program - How Is It Going?

by Chelsea Scally, associate director, S&P Global

I’ve always struggled through my professional years to really connect with anyone at a more structured level. Through multiple positions in the automotive world, I’ve always chelsea found it challenging to find a solid program, let alone a mentor that could truly guide me in a direction I would find impactful. Whether or not it was the mentor themselves, the lack of structure or a deficiency in leadership around the program altogether; the stars never seemed to align. . . that was until I decided to give YANG a shot.

With only a few meetings under our belt, it’s already been made incredibly clear that the YANG mentorship program is making an impression in our small circle. Working with Kim Nolan of BBB Industries is truly incredible and we get to really guide the conversation based on a pre-determined topic each meeting. Kim cares about our progress and the mentees really feel inclined to get involved through her leadership and our comfort with the topic’s we opted into. It’s truly a great experience!

What really made the difference was the approach to how the YANG committee looked at mentorship. They really put their heads together on this tactical approach to bringing true value to the auto care community and it’s been incredibly rewarding for all of us involved. When I learned about the approach they were taking to launch a truly viable program, I was inclined to give the idea of becoming a mentee one more shot! Not only did they test-run the program before launch, they also provided incredible topics to rank for alignment with your mentor/mentee.

This has truly made all the difference in my personal opinion as it provides the structure needed to guide the conversations, at least from the start. Where it goes is anybody’s guess! If you’re looking for a way to  benefit from those in our amazing industry truly, consider YANG’s mentorship program.
