Reacting to Event Fatigue in Our Industry

Posted by Kathleen Schmatz on June 30, 2014

We all know that time has become a most precious commodity in our personal and professional lives.

Yet, we seem to have less of it every year.

Demands on our time take us away from the office and away from our family and home.

At the Auto Care Association, we are sensitive to this reality and acknowledge that many of our members and colleagues suffer from “event fatigue.” Sadly, industry professionals are forced to pick and choose which meetings, conferences and trade shows they are able to attend.

Well, we took a bold step this year to do our part to address “event fatigue.” We worked with our co-owners of AAPEX, the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA), to replace two events with a single event. Our Town Hall breakfast and the AASA Executive Breakfast have been replaced by an opening general session at AAPEX.

Not only did we consolidate two events into one to save our members time, but we are saving folks money by offering the general session free of charge to any and all attendees. The session will be held from 8 a.m. to 8:50 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5 in the Venetian Palazzo Ballroom.

The keynote speaker for the general session will be Steve Forbes, chairman and editor-in-chief of Forbes Media, and author of a new book, Money: How the Destruction of the Dollar Threatens the Global Economy and What We Can Do About it.

Every product has a life cycle, and we had a great run with our Town Hall breakfast for more than a decade. Giving up Town Hall was a tough decision, but it was the right decision.
