I’ve been reading news reports from the Consumer Electronics
Show in Las Vegas and am just
amazed at how much new technology is being unveiled for vehicles this week.
While much of this dazzling new technology is years away from reaching the
showroom and more years away from reaching the service and repair bays in the independent
aftermarket, it will inevitably be the responsibility of the independent
aftermarket to keep these vehicles on the road.
Beyond the myriad of dashboard,
infotainment, smartphone and cabin interfaces and apps, and cloud
synchronization systems being showcased at CES, it is new technology products
like the Delphi
Connected Car for vehicle diagnostics that will impact our industry
the most. Delphi’s Connected Car solution was recognized as the first winner of
Telematics Challenge because it demonstrated how the consumer could
enjoy the convenience and peace-of-mind of telematics without the need to buy a
new car. Aftermarket telematics products are on display at CES, once again
demonstrating that the aftermarket can respond to customer needs with
innovative and affordable products.
