Every Day is Earth Day in the Aftermarket

I was delighted to see all of the media coverage of Earth Day this year and noticed a dramatic increase in the number of companies who integrated the environmental message into their print, broadcast and online advertising and PR. In our industry, we believe every day is “Earth Day.”

The automotive aftermarket industry has, for decades, practiced sustainability and has been “green” long before being “green” was cool or mainstream. The problem is most people don’t realize it and we don’t get credit for our huge contributions to a cleaner environment.

After all, the core purpose of the businesses that make up the aftermarket is to provide the parts, products and services to keep America’s vehicles operating properly, efficiently, safely and cleanly. Overall these contribute to better gas mileage, less energy consumption and cleaner air. Our member companies' widespread environmental thinking and practices in the areas of recycling, disposal, transportation and facilities management delivers energy-efficient, recyclable, reusable and non-hazardous results – EVERY DAY.

Well, this year we created our eco story: “The Automotive Aftermarket’s Green Story: Driving Toward a Cleaner Environment.”

You are going to be hearing a lot about how proud we are to be green.
