BETHESDA, Md. – Nov. 15, 2018 – Auto Care Association President and CEO Bill Hanvey testified earlier today before the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) in Washington, D.C. on the likely economic impact of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). The USITC instituted the investigation last month in response to a request from U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer following the release of the USMCA text.

Hanvey warned the administration that the cost of an additional tariff would cause severe economic harm to the U.S. automotive industry and U.S. consumers.

BETHESDA, Md. – July 19, 2018 – Today, Auto Care Association President and CEO Bill Hanvey testified before the Department of Commerce (Commerce) in Washington, D.C. on the Section 232 National Security Investigation of Imports of Automobiles and Automotive Parts. In Hanvey’s testimony, the Auto Care Association urged the Trump administration to consider the severity of unintended consequences that may ensue by imposing of tariffs on imported autos and auto parts, including the negative impact it may have on the U.S. economy and jobs, our global competitiveness, and U.S. consumers and families.

BETHESDA, Md. – May 15, 2018 – Today, the Auto Care Association’s Aaron Lowe, senior vice president, government and regulatory affairs, testified before the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) on the anticipated negative effects of the Trump administration's Section 301 tariffs on automotive parts and components imported from China. The tariffs are part of a proposed action by the administration to address unfair acts, policies and practices by China that are related to technology transfer, intellectual property and innovation.

Auto Care Association Testifies Before U.S. Copyright Office on Expanding DMCA Repair Exemption for Service and Tool Providers

BETHESDA, Md. – April 10, 2018 – Today in a hearing before the U.S. Copyright Office in Washington, D.C., Auto Care Association Senior Vice President for Regulatory and Government Affairs, Aaron Lowe, testified in support of the association’s petition to expand the current exemption for consumers under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). The current exemption allows access to encrypted software for the purposes of repair for car owners only. The association previously petitioned in September to expand the consumer exemption to also include entities that provide services on behalf of car owners, including tool manufacturers and repair shops.
