Auto Care Association Testifies Before the Federal Maritime Commission on Fair Port Practices

BETHESDA, Md. – January 16, 2018 – The Auto Care Association testified before the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) today on how incidents of port operations and severe congestion at container terminals in U.S. ports have affected its membership. Steve Hughes, president and CEO of HCS International and chairman of the Auto Care Association’s International Trade Committee provided testimony on behalf of the membership in response to a petition filed by the Coalition for Fair Port Practices in Dec. 2016, urging the FMC to ensure that demurrage and detention practices are fair and responsible when moving cargo through our nation’s ports.

Auto Care Association Announces Details for 2018 Trade Mission to Costa Rica

BETHESDA, Md. – November 16, 2017 – The Auto Care Association has announced a new trade mission to Costa Rica on May 21 – 22, 2018 as part of the Market Development Cooperator Program (MDCP) award the association received from the U.S. Department of Commerce to support export promotion projects in Latin America. 

The Costa Rica trade mission is a business development opportunity designed to assist U.S. companies in the automotive industry with gaining first-hand market information and meeting with potential clients and partners, which are pre-screened to match participants’ specific business objectives.

Auto Care Association Signs MOU with ARIDRA to Expand Awareness of International Markets

BETHESDA, Md. – November 13, 2017 – The Auto Care Association formalized its relationship with the Asociación Nacional de Representantes, Importadores y Distribuidores de Refacciones y Accesorios para Automóviles, A.C. (ARIDRA), a Mexico-based civil association that integrates manufacturers, representatives, importers and distributors of spare parts and accessories for automobiles. Auto Care Association president and CEO Bill Hanvey and ARIDRA president and CEO Alejandro Calderón Bello officially signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) Nov. 1 at the annual Automotive Aftermarket Product Expo (AAPEX) in Las Vegas.

Auto Care Association Hosts Successful International Matchmaking Program at AAPEX 2017

BETHESDA, Md. – November 10, 2017 – The Auto Care Association, in partnership with the International Trade Administration and the U.S. Commercial Service, hosted the second annual International Matchmaking Program at AAPEX 2017. The initiative is part of an award the association received from the U.S. Department of Commerce to help the automotive aftermarket industry increase its exports.

The program successfully connected suppliers at AAPEX with a select group of international buyers. The Auto Care Association matched the participants’ buying and product interests, and scheduled 60 one-on-one meetings on Oct. 31 - Nov. 1 at the Sands Expo in Las Vegas.

Auto Care Association Identifies Alibaba as Notorious Market for Counterfeit Auto Parts

BETHESDA, Md. – October 3, 2017 – The Auto Care Association submitted comments yesterday urging the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) to relist Alibaba and its family of e-commerce platforms including Taobao and AliExpress as notorious markets that facilitate the sale of counterfeit auto parts. The letter was submitted as part of the USTR’s request for comments in identifying internet and physical markets based outside the United States that engage in copyright piracy and trademark counterfeiting for its annual Special 301 Out-of-Cycle Review of Notorious Markets Report.

BETHESDA, MD – October 2, 2017 – The Auto Care Association hosted four companies on a trade mission to Central America – Honduras, Sept. 26 and Nicaragua, Sept. 28 – as part of the Market Development Cooperator Program (MDCP) award from the U.S. Department of Commerce. The association received the award to help the automotive industry increase exports to free trade agreement partners in Latin America.
